My fiance has issues with making speeches and would like to cut them out completely. I on the other hand love to talk, but I would rather not make a speech because I feel it would be awkward for me to speak and not him. Is it ok that only the best man makes a toast and no one else or do we kinda have to?

2 Questions:
1. I am the FEMALE Best Man for my friend’s wedding next month. I need to make two speeches because they are having two ceremonies. I just need a good ice breaker that will get a good laugh and not be lewd since the first ceremony is a religious one.
2. At the religious ceremony, it is more catered towards the groom’s family so I wanted to mentioned someone on that side who had passed away. The groom’s mother died a year ago and I wanted to mention her in the speech, like saying how she would be proud of her son and stuff like that and compare her a little bit to the bride. Would that be appropriate or no? I used to go over to their house a lot when I was younger so I’ve spoken to his mom a few times but I wasn’t very close with her. She was always a nice lady.
