What are the symptoms of hemorrhoids? Hemorrhoids are piles of swollen (Varicose) veins in the anal and rectum area, that sometimes enlarge sufficiently to hang outside the anus.

Hemorrhoids are amazingly common, usually resulting from chronic constipation and tend to be genetic. Hemorrhoids can cause bleeding, itchiness and possibly minor pain from the anus, and not very often, severe pain. In serious cases they may need to be surgically removed or injected with a sclerosing agent, which makes them shrivel up.

There are two kinds of Hemorrhoids:

1. Internal hemorrhoids usually happen inside the rectum below the anus lining.

2. External hemorrhoids which are uncomfortable swellings at the sides of the anus. This is caused by a rupture of the anal veins.

3. Take a sitz bath

By taking a 10 to 20 minute sitz bath, 2 to 4 times daily, this will bring heat to the area and give you a reprieve from the pain and promote healing.

4. Clean the anal area at least daily

You must clean your anal at least daily while in the shower with a mild soap. You can also use the mild soap and gently apply it after a bowel movement to keep the area clean. You must refrain from vigorous rubbing of the area.
