My brother is getting married in a few days and I will be the best man. My brother’s wife’s family is a bunch of rich snobs and I think they are just trying to put on a show and impress somebody with their money. They have made several wedding decisions that I know my brother and his wife do not like and I think they have lost sight of who the wedding is really for. I am very grateful they asked me to be the best man but I am really dreading giving a speech, mainly because I really don’t want to be part of their show and I just get super nervous with speeches. I am really not a people person and I have very few social skills so I doubt I can say anything memorable or inspiring. I love my brother and his wife and I would do anything for them and they know that. They already told me they are not expecting any kind of speech from me and they just want everyone to come and have some fun. I have told them both I am very happy for them and I think that should be good enough. Is it wrong of me to not want to give a speech?? I will probably have something short and simple ready just in case someone brings it up but I doubt I will volunteer to give it.

it’s up to your brother - if he wants you to, then you should. my hubby just recently did a speech at his brothers wedding, and he didn’t want to do it either because he was nervous, so he just kept it short and simple. he said
“hi my name is ____ , i’m the brother of the groom. i just wanted to say thank to everyone for being here today, and congratulations to my brother and his new wife ____”
and then he wrote his glass and said “cheers” that was it!
