Francis Githinji asked:

During a marriage ceremony, many things take place and, one of them is a marriage speech. There are many speeches that you can expect in a wedding and, it is vital to be prepared for this. The following are people you can expect a speech from during a marriage ceremony. The best man, father of the bride, groom, maid of honor, bride and the mother in law. Of course this will depend on the kind of culture you come from. In some cultures, there are no speeches to talk about but, in most cultures, a wedding is all about people and what they have to say. Giving a marriage speech is not an easy task. It requires lot of preparation. The following are some of the steps that you can take to ensure that you give a speech that is going to linger in the memories of everyone. The first thing is to write all the key points that you want to communicate with the people. You do not have to be very formal on this. Keep in mind that this is a wedding and not a workshop. The worse thing you can do in a wedding ceremony is to bore the people in attendance.

The best way to open a marriage speech is with a joke. Remember, all your jokes need to revolve around the bride and the groom. It is very exciting to know that you have something up your sleeves that will excite people. However, there are people who open with statements that were supposed to be jokes. Therefore, you need to make sure that your joke is funny. You do not have to ***** the ribs of guests; a smile from people is enough to let you know you were funny. Before you give your speech, check with one or two people to ensure that your joke is good to go. If you are a best man, you must stick to what the program requires of you. There are people who give a speech for too long until they take up time for other speeches and events. The key to a good speech is brevity. The more you speak, the most you are likely to become mundane. Keep it sharp and fun; you will not regret it. If you are nervous, this shows that you are perfectly normal.

You need to take a deep breathe and forget about being perfect. People expect you to be nervous and this is not a reason not to impress. Your do not have to memorize a speech; you can simply use prompt cards which will contain the key things you need to say. Do not use papers because they are too obvious in your hands. While giving a speech, your body language will matter a lot. It is a fun occasion and you need to have some movements. There are people who become too stiff and affect the speech. Your words should be nice and pleasant. These words have a way of attracting the attention of people. Being rude will just make the event a disaster on your part. Therefore, take time and come up with a speech that will not only be excellent but one that will come from your heart.

Child of the Fox asked:

My big brother is having a court wedding for some reason and plans to have a second “formal” wedding within a year. I’ve never been in a court wedding so I’m not really sure how it goes. My question is, should I worry about giving my “best man” speech then; or hold on to it until the formal wedding a year later? I guess I also want to know if the court wedding will be too quick that there’ll be no time for anything except for them to exchange their vows?

I have been watching the videos of the Obama and McCain speeches, my instincts combined with judgment tells me that Sen. McCain is the better choice.

Sen. Obama reminds me of the liberal New York City politicians of forty years ago. They also were advocates for change. It was true that they helped the poor but it was at the expense of the middle class that were driven out of the city. I believe Obama is from the same mindset.

Sen. McCain is more realistic. He speaks about free and fair trade, not about a return to a non-productive manufacturing past. His faith in the American worker to compete in the new world order convinces me that he can help our country. He is for change but not at the expense of people who pay enough taxes.

The vast majority of voters blame the government for most of their problems. They want a government that will give them free health care and affordable housing. Many believe the wealthy should pay for those needs by higher taxation. That is why they will vote for the candidate that promises big changes in the way our government treats its people.

We all believe in change–everyone has a problem. Some believe our government is not giving us enough benefits and they need more help. Others believe the government is big enough and should only help people to help themselves.

The only thing that will change if a liberal candidate becomes our next president is that internal special interests will become more powerful. They will try to make us believe that an isolated America is better for us. McCain is more realistic and his changes will make America a more powerful player in international economics. But who ever wins we are sure to get changes.

Gamblers in Ireland are making Obama the two to one favorite to win the presidential election. I believe that Sen. Obama will become our next president. Voters want a change from present day politics and they think Obama will give them that change.

Weddings are a lot of fun, and being the best man in a wedding is a privilege and an honor in itself. The thing that most men often forget when they are asked to be the best man in a wedding is that they will need to put together a speech to be read in front of everyone attending the wedding reception. While many think that writing a speech can be challenging, when you break it all down, it is a lot easier than it sounds.

So, as the best man, where do you start in writing your speech? What points should you include? Should it be funny, inspirational, or straight-forward? These are just some of the many questions that arise when creating a best man speech. Don’t make it hard on yourself. Here are some pointers that should help you create a memorable best man speech:

Take your time and write everything out. Create an outline first, then go back find out what you would like to talk more about and what you want things you only want to speak of briefly.

Remember to let everyone know who you are and how you relate to the bride and groom. This will help people get the whole picture when you are reading your speech.

Stand tall and use a loud, clear voice. Don’t overdo it on the loudness, as you will most likely be using a microphone. You want to sound clear and not like you have twelve marshmellows stuffed in your mouth.

Consider the audience and your relationship with the bride and groom. Are they humorous? If so, consider throwing some humor in the mix, as well as some more intimate or emotional things. A well-rounded best man speech should have all qualities.

Make sure the speech flows together well. Too much jumping around will have everyone confused, as well as yourself.

The most important thing about a best man speech is that you should take everything slow (not too slow, but you know what I mean). A good best man speech should last around 5 to 10 minutes in length. Anything longer and you might start losing interest from the wedding party and the reception attendees.

Just remember to make your best man speech fun, so there is never a dull moment. If you follow the tips given in this article, you will be well on your way to creating a speech that everyone will remember for the rest of their lives.

D Fraser asked:

It’s a big day in your life, and your best friends life. His wedding day is here, and he’s chosen you to be his best man. To stand by his side as he says his vows, and then at the reception to say some kind words about your relationship, and his new life to come. That’s the nervous part, walking down the isle with a bridesmaid, standing in front of the crowd at the wedding there really isn’t any pressure how ever once you’re at the reception, and all eyes are on you as you make your Best Man’s speech things can get a little nerve racking. Here are three simple tips you should pay attention to when you’re preparing to write your speech before the wedding day.

Plan Your Speech

Don’t get up in front of the crowd at the reception and attempt to make up the words on the go. You can’t realize what feelings you’ll have on this day or at that moment until it happens. So take some time before the wedding day and at a minimum jot down some notes of points you’d like to make. If you work better with writing out the entire speech before hand do so. But pay special attention to our next point if you do choose to do so.

Practice Practice Practice

If you’re reasonably good with talking from a list of points, then this probably isn’t as important to you. While you should rehearse what you’re going to say ahead of time, this particular point is very important for those that choose to write their entire best man speech ahead of time.

A wedding reception isn’t the time you want to be standing at a podium staring down at a piece of paper and reading your speech. Practicing in front of your mirror at home will help ensure that you maintain eye contact with the groom and the other people in the room at the reception. Practicing how you’ll read, where you will place emphasis with your tone and words and when ***** a quick one liner are all important aspects you should take care in preparing before hand.

Choose your words carefully

While you and your best bud might have some great memories, take care in what ones you choose to share during your best man speech. A wedding is a family ordeal, and there will be people of all ages there so choosing your words, one liners, and language carefully will be important to ensure your speech is family friendly.

Remember this is your best friends most important day. You will remember this speech for the rest of your life so ensuring you nail it should be a top priority. There are sample best man speeches and toasts you can get online to give you a blueprint to work from, as well as good ideas to incorporate into your speech. We all want to make the greatest impression with our words, and leave a memorable mark on the day. So take the time to plan something special, and present it with professionally. Follow these simple tips and you’ll be a hit.

Real Lucido asked:

It’s a unique and rare privilege to be able to give a best man speech because you have to squeeze a lifetimes worth of memories onto a small piece of paper and balance it just right to make the most perfect and enjoyable speech.
So I hope your not all expecting much!
For anyone who doesn’t know me my name is (My Name), I’m (Grooms Name) little brother and for everyone who does know me you have my condolences!
It’s an honor and a pleasure to be (Grooms Name) Best Man,
May I first say that there is no words to describe how beautiful (Brides Name) looks today and I’m happy to have her as my new sister in law, and I must also complement the bridesmaids because they are looking great, and there’s a man who needs no introduction, he’s a man who is as good as the come, he’s an inspiration to most of his friends, he’s smart, loyal, got a very witty sense of humor, he’s charismatic and he’s very attractive the women just adore him. But enough about me because this is (Grooms Name) day so I have made a large list of (Grooms Name) accomplishments in life in honor of the occasion!
Now tradition would dictate that this speech impart would be an opportunity to bring up embarrassing moments in (Grooms Name) past in front of all his family and friends, but I’ve got to tell you I’m above that.
I’m not going to tell you about the time when (Grooms Name) came in my room and closed the door behind him which didn’t actually have a handle on it and at the time (because our Dad earlier on the day had been painting the doors) which meant we where locked in together, also Mum & Dad where at a parents evening meeting one of (Grooms Name) college tutors so she could tell them how brilliant and smart he is and as proof of that he came up with the ingenious idea of how to get us out the room, he suggested I jump out the window and try to land on top of the conservatory roof, lets just say his plan never worked out. That would be out of line for me to mention that moment.
And it would be even worse to talk about the time when we were kids and I threw a snowball at his head, so he decided to grab some snow and start making one to throw back at me but we had a little Chihuahua Dog called (Dogs Name) and Mum had never warned (Grooms Name) that; “Snow doesn’t come in yellow”. That would be completely and utterly unfair of me to talk about those moments tonight.
So instead to give you all a brief insight into what it has been like to spend a lifetime with (Grooms Name)
I have updated my speech and asked the same question again so if you would all please click on my profile and answer my question again on what you think of my updated speech thanx guys and girls!

As Best Man you have a responsibility for a great many things on the big day. The most important however will be to give a great best man’s speech. Now the prospect of doing this is likely to fill you with absolute dread. Don’t worry about this – you are not alone. Public Speaking is generally accepted as being one of the public’s biggest fears – often outranking death in surveys.

Traditionally the Best Man’s speech replies on behalf of the Bridesmaids for the toast just offered by the Bridegroom. He then moves on to give a speech mainly focused on the Bridegroom.

Many Best Men get hung up about humour in their speeches. A series of gags out of a joke book is no substitute for stories about the groom or the couple. Stories are the way to go in a best mans speech. At my own wedding my best man gave a great speech made up of stories about me in which he tried to prove that he was the “better man” – very clever!

Try to find somewhere between three and five stories that you can link together to become your speech.

If you are married yourself give a few words of advice to the groom – something like “Forget about your mistakes as a husband, there’s no point in both of you remembering.”

Things to avoid are smutty comments about the Grooms past – this is not the stag night!

Also stay clear of comments about the bride – unless of course they are glowing!

Also its best to hold back on the booze. Far too many best mans speeches have been ruined by drunkenness. Save the booze for after speech. Trust me you’ll thank me for it.
