Let me start by saying that all the time spent at the beauty salon getting your hair, nails, and make up done has really paid off, Frank you look gorgeous! As you might have noticed there are two best men here tonight, and I’m sure that your all hungry so I’ll keep this short. I’d like to express my heartfelt congratulations to you both, and to thank you for the honor of being the best man. Frank, you are my older brother and best friend. You have fought through some tough times with incredible determination and courage and have been successful at everything you have done. You have taught me so many things. In particular, you have shown me the determination and motivation required to succeed. Our healthy competition has pushed us both to greater heights. We have shared so many special memories together and I’m sure that there will be many more in the future. I look up to you in more ways than you can ever believe. I have pretty much finished my best man speech , but there is one key detail that I just can’t finish. My brother Dave is 6′4 and his soon to be wife Jane is 5′1 and I’m trying to put in a joke about them choosing eachother specifically because of their height. In other words I’m trying to say something to the extent like “they really have a lot in common, Dave always wanted a wife that ……..and Jane always wanted a husband that ………….” I’m really drawing a blank can anyone help?

If you play an important role in an upcoming wedding, you know the inevitable is on it’s way - the traditional speech or “toast” as it is widely known. If you are unfamiliar with this traditional, usually people in the wedding, such as the best man, maid of honor, the bride, groom, and bride’s parents make a toast to the couple who wed, kicking off the celebration of the couple’s new life together. Since many will remember this moment forever, you will want to make sure you deliver the best speech possible.

The wedding rehearsal dinner is the perfect place to somewhat “practice” your speech, as you will most likely be making a similar speech at the actual wedding reception dinner. The wedding rehearsal dinner speech is your time to shine. You will want to deliver a speech that is humorous, yet heartwarming and sincere. Take your time in crafting your speech and really put some thought into it. Think about the couple who is being wed and their personalities. If they are more of a humorous couple, put more humor into your speech. If they are more conservative, consider toning your speech down a bit. Think about the guests at the wedding and the rehearsal dinner as well. I always say, if something sounds too risky to use in a speech, then you probably shouldn’t use it.

Another big rule in your speech is don’t make it too long, as well as too short. You want people to remember how great of a speech you gave, not how long and boring or short and cut-off it was. A great speech needs only to be around two minutes in length. You should be able to tell plenty of a story in this time frame. If it helps, write an outline of what you want to say. This way, you can find what points to elaborate on and what points to keep brief. Either way, if you follow some of these tips and get in some practice, your speech will be a knock-out, at the wedding rehearsal dinner and the wedding itself!

If you want to learn how to give a best man speech like a pro then you should read on. Specifically we’ll discuss what makes a good speaker stand out, what makes a poor public speaker and what you can do to make your best man speech exceptional. After reading this article, you’ll be ready to start preparing for the big day.

While it may seem that the confidence of a good speaker is innate, the truth is that anyone can learn how to speak in public well. Self-confidence is expressed in a variety of ways including body language, clarity of speech, how well they connect with the audience and eye contact to include all, as well as familiarity with the material being presented and how clearly the message is conveyed.

When all of these fall into place the result is often a speech that effortlessly flows, but the truth is that even the best speakers have to put in work before hand to enable them to reach this level.

Most of us are not used to speaking in public and therefore get nervous about the thought of it. If you fail to prepare a speech so that it is well thought out and the audience can relate to, are not familiar enough with it so that you have to read it aloud instead of speak it - a vital difference - or rush it due to nerves the result can be painful for both the speaker and the audience.

However the good news is that it doesn’t have to be like this.

First of all you should allow plenty of time to prepare a speech that you are completely happy with in terms of content and then ensure that it is polished to allow you to speak it easily. Think up some good ideas, write it all down, rewrite it and read it aloud until you are happy.

Once you’ve got to this stage you should rehearse the speech as much as you need, making sure your voice carries clearly and you don’t speak too fast, a common problem when nervous. You should also be aware of where you should pause for dramatic effect or to allow the wedding guests to laugh - you don’t want to speak unless you can be heard.

On the day try and relax, but nerves are normal and the adrenaline rush will help your confidence. If you really know your material and have it down to a few notes to guide you through your speech you should have few problems on the day. The wedding guests will be looking forward to your speech and so it’s not like doing stand up comedy to a hostile audience - they’ll laugh when you want them to and enjoy your speech even if you are showing nerves.

Being asked to be best man is both a pleasure and a curse for many men. However, you can enjoy the day and your time in the limelight providing you put in some time to prepare both your material and your presentation skills. By doing this you’ll naturally feel more confidence and on the day should be able to really impress with a professional sounding best man speech.
